A public service announcement...

I can't believe this happened. Not one of my better moves. Are you noticing a trend here??

A few weeks ago I was in a group situation where I shared a solution to a problem I had solved. It was really a smart idea and had made a situation run a lot smoother. Someone commented to me that they were impressed that I could come up with a solution like that. I am pretty sure that they were getting at my lack of experience and knowledge in the world. I wanted to defend myself but realized that it wasn't really worth it. And, no, I don't think they were joking with me. I must admit I do some really dingy things. I can't help it. I try to be taken more seriously but it doesn't work often. And then this happens...

I was playing phone tag yesterday with a friend and realized at school pick up time that I had missed a call from her again. I loaded the kids in the car, pulled away, and dialed her knowing that she was sitting waiting for her kids, too. I pulled up to a stop sign, turned and an unmarked black car came shooting out in to the street and there go the lights on. I was about 50 yards from the kids school so I was ready to die on the spot. I pulled into a parking lot right away and sat there as the police officer approached. He wanted to see my license. He then asked if I knew why he had pulled me over. I honestly didn't. He informed me that as of January 1st, 2010 it is against the law to talk on a cell phone is a school zone.

And a construction zone.

I had no idea.

I told him that I had no idea and that I would never have done that it I had known. He let me off with a warning. So embarrassing and yet what a good law. But, I know that I have seen other Mom's and Dad's on their phones, too. I would spread the word! Tell everyone! The officer informed me that because highway construction time is coming soon with spring approaching that they will be enforcing the new law. What a smart law, truthfully. And I have been forewarned!

  1. I'm so glad you didn't get a ticket and just got a warning...otherwise, since you were talking to me, I would of had to pay half your ticket...yikes.

I know I won't be talking on my phone anywhere near the school.

  2. I have often wondered when driving through communities we are not familiar with how we are supposed to know about their cell phone rules. Maybe we all need to make our cars no cell phone zones as Jessica does.

Glad he let you off easy. Hope you didn't cry!

  3. It's a state wide law here in Illinois. If I made my car a no cell phone zone I'd never have a conversation that wasn't interrupted! She'll know that soon. :)

    No tears here!
